Dr Mohamed Fahmy

Mohamed Fahmy is a prominent paediatric surgeon and medical scientist who innovate and established a continent urinary diversion technique for children with failed repair of bladder exstrophy, and many other techniques and procedures in paediatric surgery to succour children with congenital anomalies. He practiced surgery in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Germany for 35 years. He added his own experience in different fields of pediatric surgery; mainly in the rare genitourinary anomalies, and genital reconstruction. He spent almost of his life managing and reporting about the rare genitourinary diseases.
He developed and innovate the use of surgical staplers in many fields which were not customary in use before him; like his innovation in cases of recurrent Hirschsprung’s disease, intestinal duplication and multiple familial polyposis.
Fahmy evolved the idea of intralesional injection of bleomycin for a wide spectrum of cases of vascular and lymphatic malformations, with a great success in curing many children and boosted them to resume a normal outlook.
His experience and publications about the implication of tissue expanders for the management of vascular malformations and giant melanomas are an obvious landmark in this field.
Fahmy pioneered the reconstruction of post circumcision deformities in both male and female, and shared effectively in many global foundations to compete the malpractice of preputial mutilation. It seems that Fahmy is fond of helping the children to assume their normal body image.
Another side of Fahmy’s career is the scientific researches, editing and publication; in this regard, Fahmy authored 6 international textbooks published by the most famous publications houses; Springers and Elsevier. Fahmy had 38 international publications in a prestigious journal with a high impaction, and his researches were read by more than 1.5 minions’ researchers and cited by more than 1800 authors all over the world. In the field of paediatric surgery; Fahmy was ranked as No 1 in his university, Al-Azhar, No 3 in Egypt, No 8 in Africa and No 168 among the 1,614,852 world paediatric surgeons. Fahmy served as an editor-in chief, associated editor, as a member of the editorial board and reviewer for a wide range of highly respectable journals and periodicals.
Along his career Prof Fahmy trained, monitored and supervised many junior paediatric surgeons and urologists, who’ became also a pioneer in their field all over the world.
